Yves Saint Laurent “the greatest living French artist of this century” Andy Warhol
Over 40 years as a designer, Yves Saint Laurent revolutionised women’s fashion by borrowing items from the male wardrobe.
He made an impressive number of drawings… since childhood. here are below some hidden Drawings.
From 1962 to 2002, he presented two Haute Couture collections a year, considered as a great fashion designer.
Thousands of line drawings controlled and balanced affirming his particular personality, just Imagine about 200 000 up to 300 000 drawings!
His talented Head seamstresses, seconds did play an important role, since they had to assume a great responsibility when it was about to feel, to guess whether it would be velvet cloth or silk, when looking closely at YSL drawings, they also had to imagine, to foresee the flexibility of the fabric on some parts.
Le Smoking Black tuxedo suit for women was created in 1966.
Note that in 1981, Le Smoking ; the Grand Classic direct from sewing workshop did cost the equivalent of a Luxury Mercedes car…
YSL created a comic strip LULU ; a naughty girl, a malicious little girl who flouts convention.
Over the 1970s, he also created original and amazing theatre costumes. especially for the famous French singer, dancer Zizi jeanmaire, he created a colorful ensemble made of pheasant, ostrich, and rooster feathers.
Saint Laurent was an admirer of the “Ballets russes”, his collection simultaneously evoked czar-era Russia and the Russia depicted in operas. Using gleaming colors and luxurious textiles (including fur, chiffon, silk, velvet, and gold lamé). He claimed this one was his favourite collection ever.
1977, he launched a new fragrance, as Opium Perfume. an unusual blend of patchouli, myrrh, and vanilla, he oversaw the entire creative process. Opium remains one of the top ten best-selling perfumes in France. My favourite Parfum since late 1980s.
he created Costumes worn by Isabelle Adjani in the popular movie “Subway” directed by Luc Besson – 1985
Yves Saint Laurent admired a lot and paid tribute to Marilyn Monroe, Catherine Deneuve, Zizi Jeanmaire, Marcel Proust, Bernard Buffet, and Christian Dior in his Summer 1990 collection.
On October 31th , 2002, the haute couture house closed its doors forever. In December, the Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent, presided over by Pierre Bergé, was recognized as a public utility. Pursuing the work that the haute couture house began in 1982, it organized exhibitions about the couturier in museums all over the world.
On June 1, 2008, Yves Saint Laurent passed away in Paris at the age of 71. On September 8, 2017, His Friend and Companion Pierre Bergé passed away…
In 1958, the 28-year-old Pierre Bergé met Saint Laurent, who was six years younger. They began an intense relationship that would last the rest of their lives, morphing into a friendship, business partnership and joint ownership of an art and books collection.
“Coco Chanel liberated women, but Yves Saint Laurent gave them power,”
“Fashion is not Art, however only an Artist could made it though” P Bergé
As for myself, I just don’t know anything about fashion designers, Haute Couture collections… I am not really interested with that kind of high-society events, however I do consider Creators, fashion designers like Guy Laroche too, Creative Minds in general. last, I Adore YSL 🙂
I got to know young local “fashion designers” some time ago, I’ve ever been amazed with their creative talent, but they are so many claiming success… and few are chosen.
hmmm, for those about Fashion design, do not forget to Sign, even Registrer all your drawings before submitting to fashion houses 🙂
Thank you for reading, for sharing whenever possible.
That’s all for now. Enjoy a perfect day!
